Mechanically stabilized embankments (MSEs) are coherent gravity structures consisting of either inextensible or extensible reinforcements that interact with select granular backfill to form a gravity mass which can service vertical loads for as long as 100 years.
The stability of these structures is derived from its mass and weight, which make MSEs ideal for highway and bridge construction throughout the United States’ DOT highway infrastructure.
The discrete precast panel facing gives the system a high degree of flexibility that enables these structures to withstand significant amounts of settlement, further enhancing the design life.
MSE wire-faced retaining wall structures provide an economical alternative to precast face MSE walls that do not require aesthetic requirements. These structures utilize cost-effective wire facing to achieve the same design requirements of an MSE structure at fraction of the cost.
Wire-faced MSE walls can be designed for either permanent or temporary applications and are increasingly in demand given their optimal design efficiencies.
Wire-faced walls are an excellent alternative for phased construction where the structure may be buried at minimal costs. Additionally, wire-faced walls have been very cost effective in pre-load conditions where settlement times are reduced significantly.
Segmental retaining walls (SRWs) are also an economical solution to many MSE applications. SRWs offer a cost-effective MSE structure that can provide a variety of landscaping designs suitable for most commercial and residential environments.
SRWs may be effectively designed with less stringent backfill requirements if the proper reinforcement and drainage characteristics are properly evaluated. MTR Earth has the design and construction expertise to ensure these structures are designed properly and meet all NCMA design codes.
MTR Earth has national relationships with all the leading segmental block and geosynthetic manufacturers to ensure you get the best product at the best value.
Geosynthetically reinforced soil-integrated bridge systems (GRS-IBS) are a new technology that is supported and funded by the Federal Highway Administration to promote a cost-effective design. Utilizing concrete masonry products with geosynthetics, GRS-IBS form a composite bridge abutment. MTR Earth has extensive experience with these types of structures and will provide additional services such as stream diversion, bridge demolition and rip rap installation to offer a comprehensive solution for your construction needs.
MTR Earth has experience in the installation of both sound walls and screen walls using many different components, such as precast panels, lightweight composite materials and dry-stacked mortarless block, allowing MTR Earth to achieve a structure that will maintain appearance and offer long-lasting service life.
These durable products serve multiple uses for clients, including use as privacy fences, security fences and residential lot separation walls.
MTR Earth has more than 20 years of experience improving commercial and residential sites with a variety or architectural hardscape applications, including standard pavers, permeable pavers, and planter walls. Permeable paver systems offer environmentally friendly water management, which allows the owner to harvest water for other uses like irrigation.
We will design a retaining wall with the materials you want, and share a rendering with you.
We work with our material suppliers and have them delivered to your site so that we are ready to go the day that the job begins.
We work with your timeframe and finish the retaining wall to your specifications.
